David Krems Connected Hunger Task Force to Whirlpool Corporation’s Feel Good Fridge Program to Provide Kitchen Appliances for Pantries in Need

David Krems, Vice President of Commercial Products and Customer Care at InSinkErator, a business of Whirlpool Corporation, has teamed up with Hunger Task Force to help fight food insecurity across the state of Wisconsin. Through a nationwide Whirlpool Corporation program called Feel Good Fridge, David, and his sustainability team at InSinkErator, donate refurbished refrigerators and freezers to food pantries in the Hunger Relief Federation and Hunger Task Force’s Emergency Food Network to increase their storage capacity of fresh and frozen healthy produce to provide nutritious emergency food to those in need.

David was reminded of Hunger Task Force’s mission and community impact after participating in a school event to raise money for Hunger Task Force with his children. Hunger Task Force has a partnership with Richards Elementary School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, where two of David’s children are enrolled.

“I saw Hunger Task Force as a like-minded organization that would be a really good partner for Feel Good Fridge,” said David. “In a few months after introducing Feel Good Fridge to the Hunger Task Force last summer, we’ve delivered 44 refrigerators and freezers to food pantries in the Hunger Task Force Network!”

Through the donations, dozens of food pantries can increase the volume of fresh and frozen healthy foods provided absolutely free of charge to the hundreds of people they serve every month. Rooted In, Inc., a Hunger Relief Federation member, is a recipient of a refrigerator through the Feel Good Fridge program. According to Selena Darrow, Executive Director of the organization in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the food pantry previously had nowhere to store food donations that weren’t shelf stable. Now, the organization can accept donations of cheese, yogurt and fresh produce to provide a more diverse selection of fresh and healthy food to clients.

“Food insecurity and fighting hunger in America are a growing concern and it’s wonderful that Whirlpool Corporation can play a role and make a difference in the local community,” adds David. “The organizations we donate to are doing wonderful things with these refrigerators and freezers that they couldn’t do before. It’s a rewarding relationship with Hunger Task Force to help provide these appliances to the places most in need.”
