Dave Adams and His College Friends Have Partied to Feed Milwaukee for 20 Years
This year, Feed Milwaukee Gala, benefiting Hunger Task Force, celebrates its 20th anniversary. The annual fundraiser started as a house party by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus when Dave Adams and his college friends Ryan Burke, Daniel Kadrich, Ryan Lawrence and Walter Zoller hosted a party and unintentionally turned a profit. Instead of keeping the cash, the friends decided to donate it to Hunger Task Force. From then on, Dave (dressed as St. Nick for the event) and his friends host a Feed Milwaukee Gala every holiday season to keep the party going and feed more families in need.
“We’re going to keep hosting the event because it’s for a great cause and really helps people during the winter months,” said Dave. “Since day one we have donated all proceeds to Hunger Task Force and it has been wonderful to watch the organization grow and feed more and more people each year.”
Described as a big wedding by Dave, the gala is held at Turner Hall. It features live music, a raffle and complimentary beverages. What’s more, the event is pay-what-you-can to ensure anyone can attend.
“We want to make sure it’s really welcoming – no matter your capacity to give,” adds Dave. “Nobody is turned away, but donations ranging from $5 – $1,000 are received from guests each year.”
To date, the gala has raised nearly $250,000 dollars to feed local children, families and seniors in need. Lucetta Adams is also a part of planning the annual Feed Milwaukee Gala.
