At Hunger Task Force, we believe that every person has a right to healthy food obtained with dignity. Our talented team works to prevent hunger and malnutrition by providing food to people in need today and by promoting social policies to achieve a hunger-free community tomorrow.

Bryan Bainbridge, CEO of the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council Inc., has partnered with Hunger Task Force to provide high-quality, culturally relevant food to Wisconsin’s tribal nations since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Together, we would look at what each tribe needs to maintain proper nutrition and curate food boxes to meet those needs,” said Bryan. “What impressed me the most was the quality of the food Hunger Task Force selected for the boxes from cheese and meat to fresh fruits and vegetables.”

All the food provided to Wisconsin’s tribal nations was selected by Hunger Task Force with dignity to ensure nothing was going to expire soon and everything was aligned with their cultural preferences. Being able to help with coordinating the distribution of the food boxes amid a pandemic was something Bryan was personally proud of – especially as he saw how scarce food had become and how expensive groceries became.

While Bryan connected Hunger Task Force with Wisconsin’s 12 tribal nations to provide culturally relevant food, he was able to extend the reach of Hunger Task Force to feed additional folks in the community who needed assistance during the trying times of the pandemic.

“During the food distributions, lines were miles long to receive the high-quality produce,” adds Bryan. “When area recipients went home and cooked with their families, the ingredients Hunger Task Force provided brought so much joy. In these communities, for example, meat prices were rising so high it made everyone scramble and freak out whether they’d be able to purchase their protein. Being able to receive free meat meant so much to the community.”

Bryan joins Hunger Task Force in the belief that food is medicine. His relationship with Hunger Task Force is still strong today – improving the access tribal nations have to fresh, healthy food. Beyond continuing to provide fresh produce as needed, Hunger Task Force works to provide tribal nations with needed infrastructure to grow and transport fresh, culturally relevant foods.
