Jim Luther New Hope Center Food Pantry and Hunger Task Force Partner to Increase Access to Culturally Relevant Food in Milwaukee
Jim Luther New Hope Center Food Pantry, a member of Hunger Task Force’s pantry network, has experienced a nearly 50% increase in traffic since September 2023. To help the pantry properly serve Milwaukee residents in need, Hunger Task Force provides culturally relevant pantry staples which make up nearly one-third of the total food the pantry distributes monthly.
“Support from Hunger Task Force means we can provide our clients with reliability and consistency,” said Steve Pollock, President of Jim Luther New Hope Center Food Pantry. “The fact that a steady supply of meat, non-perishables and fresh fruit and vegetables is provided each month means our clients can count on us for their next meal amidst many other uncertainties in their lives.”
The Jim Luther New Hope Center Food Pantry team takes pride in the appearance of the pantry, which is designed to give shoppers a dignified grocery store experience. The pantry serves a diverse clientele ranging from young Hispanic families to elderly Polish immigrants and undocumented immigrants.
The pantry has proudly been a part of the Hunger Task Force network since 2005 and serves 1,500 individuals monthly. Jim Luther New Hope Center shelves are stocked with milk, canned vegetables, proteins, fruits and soups, bread, pasta and rice. It also offers fresh produce and frozen meat.
Hunger Task Force is the only food bank in Milwaukee that does not charge for food, delivery or network membership and works diligently to ensure families can receive emergency food with dignity, on the day they need it and in the neighborhood they live in.
Hunger Task Force is Milwaukee’s Free & Local food bank and Wisconsin’s anti-hunger leader. The organization’s core values are Dignity, Justice, Equity, Compassion and Stewardship. Hunger Task Force feeds people today by providing healthy and culturally appropriate food to hungry children, families and seniors in the community absolutely free of charge. Hunger Task Force also works to end future hunger by advocating for strong public policies and nutrition programs at the local, state and federal level.
