Volunteer of the Month: Valentina Casey | March 2025

Mar 1, 2025

Each month Hunger Task Force is honored to recognize an individual or organization that goes above and beyond in their service to the organization.

Hunger Task Force relies on the help of more than 16,000 generous volunteers every year. From food sorting and building healthy food boxes for seniors to helping individuals shop the Mobile Market and harvesting at The Farm, volunteers help Hunger Task Force feed people today and support our work in ending future hunger.

Over the last five months, Valentina Casey has volunteered over 100 hours with Hunger Task Force, supporting programs like Stockbox DoorDash, The Farm and the Mobile Market. A hairdresser who loves connecting with people, Valentina values the relationships she’s built with volunteers, staff and the community. Passionate about fighting food insecurity, she was drawn to Hunger Task Force’s mission and has deepened her commitment with every shift. We are proud to recognize Valentina as our Volunteer of the Month for March.

When did you start volunteering with Hunger Task Force?

Valentina: I started volunteering in October 2024. I wanted to channel my energy into something meaningful. Getting involved with a cause I truly believe in helped lift my spirits—and gave me a reason to get up early for those 8:30 a.m. Stockbox DoorDash shifts!

What volunteer activities do you help with?

Valentina: I primarily assist with the Stockbox DoorDash program, but I’ve also taken part in Stockbox and Tribal Elder Box packing, harvesting at The Farm, assembling the fall mailer, supporting the Mobile Market and even running a water station at the Beer Run 5K. There’s always something new to dive into, which keeps things exciting!

What’s your favorite part about volunteering?

Valentina: As a hairdresser, I thrive on meeting new people. Volunteering with Hunger Task Force has introduced me to so many incredible individuals. Whether it’s fellow volunteers, Hunger Task Force staff, DoorDash drivers or the community members we serve, every interaction brings a fresh perspective and a chance to connect.

What made you want to volunteer?

Valentina: I’ve been passionate about volunteering since childhood, and I’ve always felt a strong pull toward addressing food insecurity. I’d witnessed Hunger Task Force’s impact in the community—from donation drives to community outreach—so I decided to learn more, get involved and give back on a deeper level. From the moment I started, I knew I had found something special.

Why do you continue to pick Hunger Task Force?

Valentina: At first, I was drawn in by Hunger Task Force’s mission, and the more I volunteered, the more I realized just how extensive and impactful their programs are. Hunger Task Force ensures people have access to fresh, nutritious meals while advocating for long-term solutions. It’s an organization that truly makes a difference, and I’m honored to be a part of it.

What’s been your most memorable experience volunteering?

Valentina: It’s hard to choose just one! But what stands out most is the unwavering dedication of the volunteers and staff. This isn’t just a job or a way to pass the time—everyone here is deeply committed to the cause. That passion is contagious, and it’s what keeps me coming back.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering at Hunger Task Force?

Valentina: Just go for it! The flexibility of the volunteer schedule makes it easy to get involved, and with so many different opportunities, there’s truly something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to make an impact, meet new people or challenge yourself in new ways, you’ll find it here.
