YOU Help Feed More than 50,000 People Every Month
Hunger Task Force is proud to be Milwaukee’s only Free & Local Food Bank. Because of the community support we receive, we can ensure a healthy and nutritious supply of free food within our network of nearly 200 access points for hungry children, families and seniors in Milwaukee County.
Each month, nearly 50,000 people receive emergency food assistance on the day they need it and in the neighborhood they live in. Hunger Task Force combines government commodities, food collected from local food drives, purchased emergency food and fresh fruits and vegetables from the Hunger Task Force Farm to supply our emergency food network of food pantries, meal sites and homeless shelters with breakfasts, lunches and dinners based on family household size and dietary needs.
A sincere thank you to our 16,000 annual volunteers who help sort food, build healthy food boxes for seniors and plant and harvest fresh fruits and vegetables at the Farm every year. In 2024, our volunteers sorted 334,000 lbs. of food donations which is equal to the weight of 23 school buses full of kids.
Our individual donors help us purchase healthy food by the truckload. Due to our buying power, we can stretch donor dollars (farther than a shopper can at the grocery store) to purchase more healthy food items for our MyPlate food bank to ensure all the emergency food we distribute is nutritious.
Community organizations provide continued support for our programs which feed those in need in our community absolutely free of charge. From our friends at Hydrite who volunteer at our Farm for a full month each year to Kohl’s who provides thousands of volunteers to sort food and pack healthy food boxes and provides funding for Summer Meals for kids and Zurn Elkay Water Solutions who sponsors our Turkey Ticker to ensure thousands of seniors and families have a healthy and festive Thanksgiving meal, we are fortunate to have numerous community allies who join us in our critical work to combat hunger in Milwaukee.
Our media partners help us tell our Free & Local story and shine the spotlight on the impact our work has made to improve health outcomes for so many Milwaukee residents. To the local reporters we’ve developed strong relationships and the national reporters who include is in large landscape stories – we thank you and appreciate you! A special shoutout to WISN 12 for their year-long partnership and their ongoing support of Food For Families and CBS 58 for their partnership to put on the Drive-Thru Food Drive.
And to our grant administrators and the federal and state organizations we work closely with, thank you for your partnership and guidance in the fight against hunger!
As the social activist and musician Bono has said, “if you want to eliminate hunger, everybody has to be involved.”
