Andrew Ruehl Supports Affordable Access to Healthy Groceries on the Mobile Market
As the Community Affairs Lead at GE HealthCare, Andrew Ruehl keeps a pulse on community health and wellness and works to forge partnerships to improve health outcomes for Milwaukee residents.
“I grew up in Milwaukee. From an early age I saw the disparities in the city including access to healthy food,” said Andrew. “I have tremendous pride in this community, but I also recognize that it faces significant challenges that stem from segregation.”
Through his role at GE HealthCare, Andrew works to carry out the company’s mission to create a world where healthcare has no limits. One way he is doing so is by partnering with the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation to power Milwaukee forward by making financial contributions to further the impactful work of several nonprofit organizations including Hunger Task Force. GE HealthCare Foundation and the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation donated $50,000 to support the Hunger Task Force Mobile Market, which provides heavily discounted fresh and healthy groceries to Milwaukee residents residing in or near food deserts.
“I hope people will collectively understand the impact of years of disinvestment in our communities and intentional acts of systemic discrimination have on Milwaukee communities today,” adds Andrew. “For us to move forward, we have to collectively address those issues and intentionally invest in resources that build those communities up like the Mobile Market.”
Andrew credits Hunger Task Force for breaking down barriers to healthy food. He knows the stress so many families experience and believes they shouldn’t have to struggle to pay for basic needs such as nutritious meals.
