Jason Gottlieb Advances the Hunger Task Force Mission Through Service and Leadership
50 Faces. 50 Stories. 50 Years of Fighting Hunger.
Hunger Task Force is proud to be Milwaukee’s only Free & Local food bank and Wisconsin’s anti-hunger leader. In celebration of our 50th Anniversary, Hunger Task Force is highlighting “50 Faces of Ending Hunger,” honoring the anti-hunger heroes who champion Free & Local and support our mission to end hunger.

Jason Gottlieb’s journey with Hunger Task Force began over a decade ago with an unexpected harvest. As a long-time supporter, hands-on volunteer and current board member, Jason’s commitment to our mission of providing fresh, nutritious food to families in need is woven into his values. With over 25 years of experience in healthcare, Jason brings a unique perspective and uses his servant leadership to uplift both those providing care and those receiving it.
Jason’s involvement with Hunger Task Force began when he helped a family friend with their annual mitzvah project at the Hunger Task Force Farm where he participated in an apple harvest. “That was my first exposure,” Jason recalls. “I’ve been harvesting everything and anything at The Farm ever since.”
Falling in love with The Farm, Jason committed to getting to know its leaders. This commitment led him to serve on the Capital Campaign Committee, playing a key role in promoting and securing support for Hunger Task Force during the purchase and renovation of our West Milwaukee headquarters. As a result, Jason was asked to join the Hunger Task Force Board of Directors in 2022. Since joining the Board, Jason has been deeply involved in strategic planning, development and leadership succession. Reflecting on his involvement, he says, “It is humbling to be immersed in the mission. Expanding the organization’s footprint, creating economies of scale, uniting operations under one roof and supporting both the agency leadership and strategy were essential for advancing the mission.”
As a father, Jason has made it a priority to instill the values of servant leadership in his children. He leads by example, teaching them the importance of giving back to the community, showing compassion for others and using their skills to make a positive impact. “Volunteerism is so extraordinarily important to me. The first time I came to The Farm, I brought my thirteen-year-old son Levi—who is now a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin—and he hasn’t missed a year since.”
For Jason, family and community are intertwined, and his commitment to service extends to the students and staff he supports as a long-standing board member at Milwaukee Jewish Day School. “My community is my family, and that’s where I find meaningful impact,” shares Jason. Through his advocacy, Hunger Task Force has now become part of the annual Mitzvah Day experience at the school, during which students volunteer at the food bank and The Farm, learn about where fresh food comes from.
“Dignity is one of the core pillars of Hunger Task Force, and it resonates deeply with me,” Jason shares. “It’s hard to be a productive citizen without healthy, nutritious food. The idea that we’re Free & Local and dignified in how we serve, that’s essential for the people we help.”
As Hunger Task Force continues to improve community nutrition, Jason remains a steadfast partner on the Board, at The Farm, and within the broader Milwaukee community. Through his passion for service, he models the power of giving back and inspires others to follow his lead to make the city a better place, one harvest at a time.
