Hunger Task Force is Milwaukee’s only Free & Local food bank and proud to deliver high-quality, nutritious food free of charge to our network partners. Managing our dedicated team of drivers and warehouse staff is Jerry Pipp who has been with Hunger Task Force for nearly 11 years.
“My favorite memory at Hunger Task Force was working with the team to provide best-in-class service to our network during the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so, we became a tight knit group, and I built really strong friendships with fellow staff, network partners and community members,” says Pipp.
When Jerry first started at Hunger Task Force there was nearly 25,000 square feet of warehouse space for food storage. Today, Jerry oversees nearly 120,000 square feet of warehouse space where frozen, fresh and nonperishable foods are safely stored.
What’s more, nearly 11 years ago, Hunger Task Force built orders with one cereal, two vegetables or fruits, one protein and one dinner grain. Today, orders contain multiple dinner grains – like pasta and rice – two or three fruits and canned and frozen meats and fish.
To ensure the network of 65 food pantries, meal providers and homeless shelters receives a monthly delivery of free food in a timely fashion, Jerry is responsible for mapping out routes for seven route representatives.
“Our route representatives are almost exclusively out in the community making deliveries to their assigned partners. Doing it this way, drivers can establish relationships with representatives from their assigned pantries, which has increased our quality of service tremendously,” adds Pipp.
As the leader of the team, Pipp believes that he should never ask his team to do something he isn’t willing to do. So, you can find him sweeping the floor, building an order or making a delivery.
With a background in logistics, Jerry didn’t understand the widespread issue of hunger in the Milwaukee Community when he first joined Hunger Task Force. What he finds so rewarding is knowing at the end of the day children, families and seniors in need will have food on the table because of the dedicated team at Hunger Task Force.
