Why did Hunger Task Force revive Voices Against Hunger? We relaunched Voices Against Hunger to provide a platform for citizens to advocate. Through Voices Against Hunger, Wisconsinites, who care about nutrition programs, will be informed about issues that impact statewide hunger and have an easy way to take action to advocate for policies that impact the nutrition of children, families and seniors in their community. Through Voices Against Hunger, we will also educate people about the different policies and legislation being introduced in both Wisconsin and at the federal level that may impact them and their loved ones.
What do you love most about the group? I really appreciate being able to get access to timely information that impacts statewide hunger. Voices Against Hunger provides convenient ways to advocate with local and federal legislators.
What’s on the horizon for Voices Against Hunger? Soon, people can expect to be informed about legislation dealing with the upcoming Farm Bill that covers a range of agriculture and food-related programs and policies. Members can expect to learn more about the proposals to the Farm Bill and may be called upon to take action, so we do not lose funding for any of the federal nutrition programs. It’s critical that these programs are fully funded so they can meet the needs of people in our state.
As the Advocacy Director, how important is it for Hunger Task Force to be leading this charge? At our core, we’re an anti-hunger organization and we focus heavily on public policy. Our vulnerable neighbors in Wisconsin rely on us to advocate on their behalf to influence those who govern federal and state programs to fight hunger more effectively.
