Partner of the Month: SEW-IFMA | September 2024

Sep 18, 2024

Hunger Task Force isn’t just Milwaukee Free & Local food bank – we’re a community. We believe in the power of collaboration, and that’s why we’re thrilled to recognize our amazing supporters through “Partner of the Month,” a platform to celebrate the incredible local organizations, businesses and companies who join us in the fight against hunger. They donate food, volunteer their time, raise awareness and provide financial support – strengthening our work in preventing hunger and malnutrition by providing food to people in need today and by promoting social policies to achieve a hunger-free community tomorrow.

With over 200 local chapter members, the Southeast Wisconsin Chapter of the International Facility Management Association (SEW-IFMA) has been an invaluable partner in our efforts to end hunger in Milwaukee, providing not only financial support but also a hands-on commitment at the Hunger Task Force Farm.

SEW-IFMA was founded to meet the changing informational and educational needs of facility management professionals across a wide range of sectors, including corporate, government, and health care. As an organization, they bring together individuals working in these fields to offer guidance, share best practices, and build community. What makes SEW-IFMA truly exceptional, however, is their dedication to giving back. Through monthly service projects, they actively support non-profit organizations like Hunger Task Force, both by volunteering their time and providing financial contributions to help us meet our mission of feeding Milwaukee families in need.

SEW-IFMA’s partnership with Hunger Task Force began in 2017, and since then, they have made an incredible impact through their time spent volunteering at The Farm. Their dedication has grown each year, with dozens of members rolling up their sleeves to help ensure we can grow and harvest the fresh produce that feeds our community.

Their hands-on work includes washing thousands of pounds of produce like collard greens, peppers, turnip greens and mustard greens, while also helping preserve the Oak Savannah by removing invasive plants. Volunteers have also contributed by planting and harvesting thousands of broccoli, cabbage and lettuce plants. Their dedication helps ensure Milwaukee families receive healthy, locally grown food.

Chris Bass, a member of SEW-IFMA’s Service Committee, reflects on his experience volunteering, “I can’t say enough good things about working with Hunger Task Force. I grew up on a farm and love the opportunity to feel a connection to the land. This feeling is made even better knowing I am helping a wonderful organization that supports our community. I always leave feeling energized and fulfilled knowing I helped serve a greater purpose.”

In addition to their volunteer efforts, SEW-IFMA has generously contributed financially to support Hunger Task Force, donating thousands to our work of ending hunger for local families. These funds help us continue to provide fresh food and important nutrition programs to families throughout Milwaukee County.

Their dedication to serving the community—both through volunteerism and financial support—sets a powerful example of how organizations can truly make a difference.
